Website design - why?

It's all too easy to begin a web design project for the wrong reason. Just because you think rats make a fantastic pet doesn't mean anyone else cares enough to visit a website about it. Before you get stuck in with building or overseeing the build of your site make absolutely certain you are not wasting your time.

Research your subject. For example perform searches on the major search engines, such as Google, MSN and Yahoo to discover if there is a niche for your idea amongst sites of similar interest. Put aside any pre-conceptions you may have and ask yourself (and as many other people who are prepared to answer), "Is there a need for this?". If the answer is even remotely yes then go ahead and begin the next stage. After all, with so many users of the internet the chances are someone, somewhere will be interested in your site. If, however, you can't come up with a reasonable excuse for your site then don't waste your time

Designing an effective website is not easy. It can be expensive and is often unrewarding so make sure you are confident you are not wasting your time before you begin.

Tip 1: Do your research and be confident you are not wasting your time!
